Dr. Ozkara graduated from Uludag University, Medical Faculty in 1984 and completed her neurology training in Bakirkoy State Hospital for Neurological and Psychiatric Diseases after 2 years of compulsory service. She worked at the University of Virginia, Comprehensive Epilepsy Center in 1991-92 with Dr. FE Dreifuss as the recipient of William G. Lennox International Clinical Research Fellowship award provided by American Epilepsy Society. Dr. Ozkara achieved associate professorship in 1996 and full professorship in 2002. Since then she has been working at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Department of Neurology, Epilepsy – EEG section and running an epilepsy outpatient clinic and Epilepsy Surgery program. She is married with two daughters.
Dr. Ozkara has been involved in activities related to epilepsy since 1992 after she joined the Turkish Epilepsy Society and served as board member for a long time. She took part in the founding of EUREPA, certified as a trainer, served in the sub-commission on European Guidelines, commissions on epilepsy surgery, interregional relationships, epilepsy care and currently is serving as secretary for the Commission on European Affairs and a board member of EUREPA. She organized international scientific meetings such as “Mesial temporal lob epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis, Idiopathic generalized epilepsies, Malformations of Cortical Development and Epilepsy” followed by reports published in epilepsy journals.
She put effort in the organization of Mediterranean conferences, European congresses, and took part as a tutor in many courses. She has recently initiated a project on epilepsy surgery for Eastern and Central European countries (EPODES) with CEA, participated in multicenter drug trails, research studies such as EURAP, and EPICURE. Dr. Ozkara has published many papers, written book chapters, edited books and took part in the editorial board of scientific journals.
